What Makes a Good Message

Do:

  • Name ONE specific thing they did/achieved
  • Keep it short (3-4 sentences max)
  • Sound like a human, not HR department
  • Include personal touch when possible

Don't:

  • Use corporate jargon ("synergy," "leverage," "optimize")
  • Write paragraphs of generic praise
  • Make it about you/the company instead of them
  • Forget to mention the actual reward amount

Customization Tips

For Nigerian Employees

  • Use ₦ currency symbol
  • Reference Naira values (₦15,000-50,000 range)
  • Acknowledge family/community context when appropriate

For Kenyan Employees

  • Use KES or Ksh
  • Keep messages concise and practical
  • Mobile-first mindset (they'll read on phone)

For South African Employees

  • Use R (Rand)
  • Professional tone works well
  • Acknowledge work-life balance when relevant

Subject Lines That Work

  • "[Name], happy birthday!"
  • "[Name], it's been [X] years"
  • "Thank you for [specific thing]"
  • "Eid Mubarak / Merry Christmas [Name]"
  • "Congrats on [achievement]"

When to Keep It Short

Sometimes less is more:

"[Name], that was clutch. ₦20k in your email. Thank you. — [Your Name]"

For instant spot recognition, short and fast beats long and delayed.

The Formula

Every good recognition message has:

  1. Greeting (use their name)
  2. Specific acknowledgment (what they did)
  3. Impact statement (why it mattered)
  4. Reward mention (amount and how to access)
  5. Sign-off (your name, keep it human)

Bottom Line

Recognition messages don't need to be poetry. They need to be:

  • Specific
  • Timely
  • Genuine
  • Human

Pick a template. Customize the [brackets]. Send it. Done.

Stop overthinking. Start recognizing.
